Class Description
In this class, you'll learn to utilize the tools hidden inside the text to create a dynamic performance and deepen your understanding and connection to the words on the page. By exploring the rhetorical devices within Shakespeare's language, you'll learn to work with the text, strengthening your skills as a classical actor! WHAT WE'LL PROVIDE: - printed materials - pencil with eraser WHAT YOU CAN BRING: - notebook or journal - highlighters, pens, etc - sticky notes - water bottle or beverage with a tight lid This is a foundation level class! Age 16+ Whether a total beginner or an experienced classical actor, we think that you would find this class invigorating to your approach and connection to acting Shakespeare. At Struts & Frets, we employ a text-based approach and we will explore these techniques to find textual clues and apply them as an actor, and see how Hannah coaches actors in classical text as a director. The text will be provided for the workshop and we recommend bringing something to take notes with. This class is taught by Hannah Fawcett (she/they), S&F's Artistic Director. Hannah is an actor, director, and teacher. Hannah has worked at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Valley Shakespeare Company, Oregon Fringe Festival, and ShakespeareAMERICA Institute. She has taught at Western Oregon University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Dallas High School (her production of "The Yellow Boat" was selected unanimously as the top pick and performed at the Oregon Thespians Conference), and Children's Educational Theatre. She holds a BFA in Theatre from Southern Oregon University, and was classically trained by Rebecca Clark Carey and Scott Kaiser. Hannah specializes in finding room for every artist in the power of classical texts.
Cancellation Policy
We ask that if you are unable to attend class, please let us know at least 24 hours BEFORE the start of the class. Anything later than 24 hours notice or a complete no-show and you will be charged 100% of the cost of the class.
